Movie Conventions Research: Where the Crawdads Sing

What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?


This movie includes a lot of suspense throughout the film, which is one of the elements my group mates and I will be implementing into our film. It also has many plot twists, moments of uncertainty, and confusion, where the audience is left to wonder who the killer is. This move also does not give clear explanations for the events occurring throughout the film. For example, the killer's motive and strategy for killing the victim are never revealed clearly to the audience. This leaves them to wonder and also leaves them with uncertainty and suspense.

What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?


The elements that this movie has that I liked were the intriguing plot and backstory that left the audience to creatively think about. The main character's backstory was not highlighted in this murder mystery film. So, the audience was able to personalize and think about their own interpretation of the characters and what their backstories were. I like this because I think it enhances the experience for the viewers and makes the movie more appealing.

What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?


This movie did not have any particular elements that I did not like. However, there were some elements that I would not include in my final task, such as the setting and props that correlated with the storyline of the film. For my group's final task, there will be a much more modernized and urbanized setting that may include more props that engage with the audience of our younger generations, such as smartphones and more social settings. The main character in this movie is very isolated, and our final task will be based on a much more socialized plot.
