Reflection Blog
Hello! I have recently completed my All About Me Commercial. Throughout the process, I had to learn how to use new types of technology. I used my phone to edit my film, which I already knew how to use, but I did have to learn new apps and software. I have used iMovie before, but I have never truly taken the time to learn the app's features until this project. I learned how to edit the clips further in detail rather than just adjusting the length, as I have done previously. I also experimented with many features that were new to me, such as transitions and adding music. Adding text with certain fonts and adjusting the volume of my music at certain times was all new for me. I picked up on the techniques quickly with the help of my teachers and peers. Overall, taking the time to test all the features offered allowed me to create my commercial to the best of my ability.
Furthermore, not only did I learn the new technology, but I also learned a lot about the process of putting a project together. Before this project, I had very little experience with filming and editing, but now I have discovered the process of how a film is made. I learned how in-depth and how much planning is required to execute a successful film. Prior to this project, whenever I would watch a movie or T.V. show, I would never consider how much time and effort the cast and crew had put into the film. However, I now take account of the hard work put into each film. I also learned time management and how to make the most of my time to edit my film and write my blogs. Learning the process of how films are made has changed my perspective and raised my respect for actors and film crew.
While I tried my best on my project, I believe I could always improve. I could make my next project better by focusing on the order of photos and videos and how long they were shown. While the lengths of the clips seem reasonable, the final film was less than 40 seconds long, so it could have been much longer. Also, I could work on putting text on each slide. This would add detail and elaboration to my film by explaining what each photo and video represents. For the commercial I just completed, I had put text on the opening and closing slides. However, I did not use text on the individual slides. With the combination of these techniques, I can significantly improve with my next film.
Throughout this project, there were some aspects that I liked more than others. I enjoyed the process of gathering my photos and videos the most. This is because I got to scroll through my camera roll and see photos and videos of memories throughout my life. I also enjoyed the process of picking the song as I got to think about my favorite music and decide which one fits the aesthetic of the film best. On the other hand, there were some parts of the project I did not enjoy as much. This was the part where I had to pick which transitions I wanted to use. While it was not particularly challenging, I had a hard time deciding which transition flowed best with the rest of the film. Overall, there were ups and downs to the project, but I enjoyed it and I am happy with how my film came out. I am looking forward to upcoming projects and I am excited for how much I will improve with my technique.
